Govern AI-generated code with the same policy gates as every release
Last updated
Fianu is an automated software governance platform that enforces security, quality and compliance policy on every release. Fianu is agnostic to who or what wrote the code. Code from developers, AI coding assistants and autonomous AI agents passes through the same policy gates and produces the same audit evidence. Fianu policies are written in Rego and run on Open Policy Agent (OPA), so policy rules stay separate from application code.
What is AI coding sprawl?
AI coding sprawl happens when teams adopt several AI coding tools faster than the organization can govern them. The result is code and applications in production with no clear owner, no audit trail and no proof that security policy was met. Standardizing every AI tool is impractical. Standardizing the path to production is not.
How does Fianu govern AI-generated code?
Fianu governs the release, not the keyboard. It connects to the existing CI/CD pipeline and DevSecOps tools, collects evidence for every change and evaluates that evidence against policy before release.
- Capture evidence from source control, CI/CD, security scanners and testing tools for every change, from commit to deployment.
- Evaluate policy with OPA. Each control checks the evidence, for example: no critical vulnerabilities, required peer review, SBOM present, approved dependencies only.
- Enforce gates. Non-compliant releases are blocked automatically.
- Attest. Each release carries a Software Bill of Attestations (SBOA): an immutable, audit-ready record of which controls passed.
Because enforcement happens at the release, Fianu works the same way no matter which AI tools a team uses.
Can I create custom controls with AI?
Yes. Fianu customers create new custom controls by prompting their own AI coding agent with the policy parameters they need. The agent generates the policy code, which is pasted into Fianu. Because Fianu uses Open Policy Agent, the policy rule is separate from application code, so it can be reviewed, versioned and tested on its own.
Example prompt: "Write an OPA Rego policy for Fianu that blocks a release if any dependency has a CVSS score of 9.0 or higher, or if the pull request has fewer than two approving reviewers."
Is Fianu itself built with AI?
Yes. Fianu's product is predominantly written with AI coding agents. Fianu governs its own AI-generated code with its own policy gates.
What results do Fianu customers see?
Dexcom, a leader in continuous glucose monitoring, uses Fianu to automate evidence collection, policy enforcement and compliance reporting to the FDA. Fianu reduced Dexcom's software release cycle time by 85% and removed more than four weeks of lead time from the release process. Policy gates block non-compliant releases.
Frequently asked questions
- Do we have to change our AI coding tools?
- No. Fianu works at the pipeline and release level, so teams keep the tools they already use.
- What is a Software Bill of Attestations (SBOA)?
- An SBOA is an immutable record attached to each release. It lists the controls evaluated, the evidence collected and whether each control passed.
- Why does Fianu use Open Policy Agent?
- OPA is an open-source, CNCF-graduated policy engine. Writing controls in OPA's Rego language keeps policy separate from application code, so security and compliance teams can own and audit policy independently.
- Does governance slow down AI-assisted development?
- No. Fianu automates the evidence gathering that usually slows releases. Dexcom's release cycle time fell 85%.
- Who founded Fianu?
- Fianu Labs was founded in 2022 by software governance leaders, co-authors of the book Investments Unlimited, and software delivery experts from one of the largest US banks.
